Vigilance office recovers several gold coins, cash, cash and mobile phones from the residence of arrested IAS agent Sanjay Popli

Several gold and silver coins, cash, expensive mobile phones and other electronic devices were recovered from the Chandigarh residence of arrested IAS Sanjay Popli. A total of 12.5 kg of gold, including nine gold bricks of one kg each, 3 kg of silver and four iPhones were seized from his home during the search by the Vigilance Office.

As part of the investigation of the case, the Vigilance team had gone to the Popli’s home and was present at the time of the incident.

On June 21, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Popli for allegedly demanding a one percent commission as a bribe for allowing tenders for the laying of a sewer pipeline in Nawanshahr.

Meanwhile, days after Popli’s arrest, his only law graduate son, Kartik, is believed to have committed suicide today at his residence here with his licensed pistol.

The victim’s mother alleged that Kartik, 27, died of a bullet to the head while a vigilante team was present at the house in Sector 11.

She alleged that vigilante detectives shot Kartik.

However, local police said he shot himself on the first floor of the house after the vigilance team returned from the search operation.

Police said they had to force open Kartik’s bedroom door and rush him to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research where he was pronounced dead.

“Kartik committed suicide with an authorized weapon. Initial investigation shows that he committed suicide,” Chief Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal told the media.
