Verizon (VZ) and AWS Extend Mobile Edge Computing to More Places
Verizon Communications Inc. VZ and Amazon Web Services now offer mobile edge computing in Charlotte, Detroit, Los Angeles and Minneapolis.
Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Wavelength, a cloud computing platform, brings AWS compute and storage services to the edge of Verizon’s wireless network.
Verizon 5G Edge is a mobile computing platform for businesses. It was designed to enable developers to build applications for mobile end users and wireless edge devices with ultra-low latency.
5G Edge brings the data and processing performed by end-user applications and services closer to the network edge. Verizon is building the 5G edge compute ecosystem to enable enterprises to benefit from a private network and on-premises edge compute infrastructure.
Verizon shares have lost 6.7% in the past year compared to industrydown 9.5%.

Launched in August 2020, Verizon and AWS currently offer mobile edge computing in 17 locations. These are Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Phoenix, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and Washington DC.
AWS Wavelength is an optimized infrastructure offering for edge mobile computing applications. Wavelength Zones are infrastructure deployments that integrate AWS compute and storage services into communications service provider data centers at the edge of the 5G network. This reduces round-trip data requirements, allowing customers to take full advantage of the latency and bandwidth benefits offered by 5G.
By using 5G Edge with AWS Wavelength, developers can build various applications such as machine learning, Internet of Things, and game streaming.

Verizon and AWS are partnering with SaaS providers such as Couchbase and Confluent to provide developers seamless access to Verizon 5G Edge with AWS Wavelength.
