Ubisoft set to unveil Rainbow Six Siege Mobile next month
Ubisoft will reveal its next mobile game next month on April 6and 2022 – Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Mobile. The game, which has been in development in collaboration with WeGame (Tencent), will debut with a video game trailer and media coverage.
Rumors of a Rainbow Six Siege mobile title began circulating last year after Ubisoft Halifax sent out a test survey aimed at mobile gamers on their level of familiarity with Rainbow Six Siege. Additionally, hints of the release were made during Tencent’s fourth quarterly earnings call yesterday, ending “Projects with Ubisoft” under the 2023 schedule, suggesting the game could be released in 2023.
While details are somewhat thin at this time as more details will be revealed on April 6th, it looks like the title will follow a fairly traditional mobile game rollout with participants having access to the game based on their region. More and more console and PC games have made their way to mobile in recent years, with games like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, FIFA, and Battlefield all making their way to mobile devices.
A source who had seen a behind-the-scenes presentation described the game as “massive for the mobile market” and “this will be a mobile game that Siege fans will love”.
Rainbow Six Siege has been hugely successful since its release in 2015, with Ubisoft reporting in December 2020 that over 70 million players had signed up to play the game across all platforms. Tencent will be working closely with Ubisoft over the next few years to bring more of its IPs to the mobile market, with both a new Assassin’s Creed title and The Division title also in development for mobile.
Ubisoft shut down popular Rainbow Six Siege mobile clone “Area F2” last year, as reported Gamer on PC. According to the lawsuit, Ubisoft said the clone looked so similar to the original that players could mistake one for the other. “Ubisoft is happy that Area F2 has been removed from sale by Ejoy.com. Accordingly, we have decided to dismiss the complaint filed against Ejoy.com, Apple and Google. Going forward, we remain committed to protecting all of our intellectual property and the hard work of our teams.“, the company mentioned in a press release published afterwards.
Since then, there hasn’t been much news about an upcoming Rainbow Six Siege mobile game until recently when a user on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours sub-Reddit brought everyone’s attention a few months ago to the gaming test investigation that Ubisoft Halifax was sending players, which included specific questions about their familiarity with popular mobile titles and, in particular, Rainbow Six Siege. All of these clues, while subtle, have led players to speculate that Rainbow Six Siege will be released for mobile platforms by Ubisoft.
