The City of Mobile, Alabama Approved Its First Bitcoin Mining Project
- Distributed Ledger Inc and GulfQuest Maritime Museum have partnered to bring sustainable bitcoin mining to the city of Mobile, Alabama.

Distributed Ledger Inc (DLI), a cryptocurrency infrastructure company, and the GulfQuest Maritime Museum Board announced a partnership to bring sustainable bitcoin mining to the city of Mobile, Alabama, according to a joint press release. .
DLI takes a modified shipping container and houses 100 Bitmain Antminer S19s that will be air-cooled on site. The machines are intended to harness the continued construction of bitcoins for government funding and other infrastructure to be funded through mining revenue. DLI and GulfQuest hope to accelerate bitcoin adoption as far as government is concerned with this venture.
“Bitcoin mining’s high-tech revenue stream is tied to educating, adopting, and growing the next level of encrypted and secure Internet growth designed to provide cost and time savings. significant costs and a higher level of safety for the world’s maritime industry,” said former Mobile Mayor Mike Dow and current executive director of the GulfQuest Board of Directors.
Mobile City held a city council meeting last month in which the city agreed to allow the project to go ahead, noting the city’s desire to expand its exposure to bitcoin and other cryptocurrency related projects.
“We couldn’t be more excited about bringing blockchain technology and bitcoin to the state of Alabama and, more importantly, the great city of Mobile. Our goal at DLI is simple: to help businesses and institutions to understand, accumulate and use cryptocurrency,” said Mike Francis, CEO of Distributed Ledger.
GulfQuest opened in 2015 as an interactive, non-profit museum located at the mouth of the Mobile River to showcase and tell the story of Mobile and the Gulf of Mexico’s maritime heritage.
