Tesla Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) – Tesla’s mobile charging connector is sold out after the electric vehicle maker says it won’t ship with new cars

During the weekend, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the company will no longer include a mobile charging cable with newly delivered cars. Until now, new and used Tesla vehicles came with a charging adapter that allowed the vehicle to be plugged into any standard wall outlet. Faster charging options were available on Tesla’s website as additional purchases.

This connector allowed customers to charge through any number of available outlets and take it with them on the go. But in another twist shared by Electrek, even if a customer ordered the vehicle at a time when the website described it as coming with a charger, it will not be included at the time of collection. Musk said the change is due to data from Tesla showing the mobile charger wasn’t used often. But customer outcry caused Tesla to change its ways slightly.

The price of the Mobile Connector on Tesla’s site will drop from $275 to $200. But at the time of writing, the Mobile Connector is currently sold out in Tesla’s store, which does not allow customers to access this connector. This has led some to speculate that the change is due to supply chain constraints.

Either way, this seems like an odd move for Tesla. Now, if a customer hasn’t prepared to charge their Tesla car before accepting their new vehicle, they will have no way to charge at home, relying on expensive or potentially remote public charging solutions.
