Shaquille O’Neal’s $1,000/week mobile app spend makes him the NBA’s ‘Tech Freak’

Shaquille O’Neal has admitted that he is a huge geek who spends a ridiculous amount of money on apps since he is constantly online on his phone.

NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal has been recognized as the face of many league organizations and one of the NBA cast members on TNT.

Shaq hopes to enrich the next generation of basketball players by passing on his knowledge and experience gained while he was away from the game.

O’Neal successfully transitioned from basketball player to tech investor, after buying Google stock before the IPO and calling Steve Jobs for a first iPhone (which he didn’t receive).

In addition to his own interests and accomplishments, Shaquille O’Neal has taken on the role of advisor and mentor to aspiring entrepreneurs.

O’Neal, one of Twitter’s first verified users, admitted to being a major geek at SXSW. Shaq pretends to be always online and spends a ridiculous amount on apps. He spends $1,000 every week on apps in the name of his tech savvy.

Shaquille O’Neal spends $1,000 a week on mobile apps

According to the Wall Street Journal, the former NBA player turned analyst recently admitted spending a lot of money on games and phone apps.

“I’m not afraid to admit that I’m a geek at heart,” Shaq said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “Honestly, I spend about $1,000 a week on apps, real money.” When I’m not working, I spend all my money on apps. »

O’Neal enjoys being at the forefront of mobile phone innovation.

He also enjoys blowing deer on his cell phones. Shaq mentions buying nearly 20 deer hunting sets. However, spending $1,000 is rather impressive considering that the average iPhone app price is only $0.19. This is equivalent to 5,263 applications. Impressive.

Shaq has earned over $300 million in salary during his NBA career, so spending $52,000 a year on deer hunting apps isn’t that big of a deal.

O’Neal’s obsession with mobile media should come as no surprise to his admirers. He was Twitter’s first verified user, and he claims he called Steve Jobs and asked if he could get the first iPhone before Apple released it.

Although it may seem compulsive, O’Neal could spend his money on far worse than Internet deer hunting. He wastes maybe $1,000 every week on unwanted items, which is bad for business.
