Ravichandran Ashwin is 36; BCCI lists its achievements

Bombay, September 17: The Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) congratulated spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on his 36th birthday on Saturday, listing the star bowler’s achievements over the years and wishing him success in the future.

Ashwin has been included in the 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia next month along with fellow tweakers Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal.

In its message to Ashwin, BCCI wrote: “255 international matches, 659 international wickets, 3799 international runs, second best wicket taker for #TeamIndia in Tests, 2011 ICC World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy winner. Wishing @ashwinravi99 a very happy birthday.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals, for whom the veteran played earlier this season with Chahal, tweeted: “An Ash Anna for all seasons. Happy birthday, @ashwinravi99.

Ashwin recently took to his YouTube channel to express his displeasure at India’s young striker Arshdeep Singh who was accused of losing a crucial hold in the Asian Cup Super Four game against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Fans recently took to social media to express their anger at Arshdeep when he lost the hold as Pakistan needed 34 points to win in two overs. In game 18 of the Super Four match, when Pakistan needed 34 points, Asif Ali tried to sweep Ravi Bishnoi and it looked like he would come back to the pavilion. However, 23-year-old Arshdeep dropped the direct chance and Ali survived to bring the game back in favor of Pakistan. The Indian stimulator then received many criticisms from Internet users.

Ashwin said the 23-year-old pacer had the guts to throw a superb final inning despite the backhand of the lost hold.

“I know it was against Pakistan and it was at a crucial time. But why go after someone relentlessly and put them in emotional turmoil? Yes, this is an era of social media modern people, I understand. But it is still our responsibility to act reasonably in these situations. Just as we have the right to express our thoughts, we must also formulate those thoughts carefully so that we are prepared for the consequences. after expressing these thoughts,” Ashwin had said on his YouTube channel.
