Public meeting on unjustified rent increases for mobile home sites | New

PRINCETON — Significant rent increases at Mercer County mobile home park sites will be the subject of an October 12 town hall meeting at the Mercer County Courthouse by a nonprofit law firm .

Mountain State Justice is a nonprofit law firm that promotes justice for low-income people in West Virginia through the civil justice system, according to Mountain State Justice attorney Adam B. Wolfe.

“We are aware of recent unwarranted rent increases by out-of-state private equity firms in the Mercer County area,” Wolfe said in a statement announcing the town hall meeting. “Many of these citizens of Mercer County who are impacted by these egregious and unfair rent increases are hard-working and retired people on fixed incomes who own their homes. This is an obvious ploy to take away the private property of our family, friends and neighbors. These are people who are already making the difficult choice between expensive health care, food, and now housing. »

There will be a public meeting at 6 p.m. on October 12 at the Mercer County Courthouse with local elected officials and concerned community members to discuss changes in state policy and law to protect the community from interests outside the state, Adams said.

“We continue to investigate the situation and are evaluating all options for action,” he said. “We encourage you to continue to contact local elected officials in your state and county about these unfair and unwarranted rent increases by private equity firms.”
