New parking meters, mobile payment option rolled out in downtown Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – The city of Spokane just finished installing new parking meters this week.
This is the next phase of a plan to simplify and improve on-street parking in downtown Spokane.
You may have already seen new meters over the summer — this was Phase 1 of the City’s meter replacement plan.
In Phase 2, new meters are now being installed east of Washington St. to Division St. and south of Spokane Falls Blvd. at First Ave.
These are one- or two-space meters — this means you’ll need to select whether you’re parking in the left or right space before paying.
The new parking meters are also color coded according to the time limit.
The two-hour counters are purple, the four-hour counters are blue, and the all-day counters are green.
City of Spokane communications manager Kirstin Davis said each block with on-street parking will be compatible with meters of the same color and time limit and there are still new meters to come. come.
“We’re dealing with that downtown, and then the next phase will be, as funds allow in the future, to replace over time the rest of those outside of the downtown,” Davis said.
Currently older meters are labeled with different colored stickers to indicate time limits and you are prompted to use the ParkMobile app to pay.
Phase 2 of the City’s plan includes the removal of the Passport parking app.
People parking downtown will need the ParkMobile app instead.
According to the City of Spokane’s website, you can use ParkMobile by app, web, text, and Google Pay.
The City also explains that if you still have a balance in your Passport app wallet, it will be refunded to your credit card or by check.
You can also get a digital coupon code for $2.40 with ParkMobile if you have less than two dollars left in the wallet.
You can still pay with credit card, debit card or coins at the new parking meters, but again ParkMobile is what you’ll need if you want to pay contactless.
