New affordable housing development underway in Mobile

City of Mobile officials and partners inaugurate construction in Mobile (City of Mobile)

On October 20, the City of Mobile along with government officials, representatives from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and others joined in the dedication of affordable housing on the east side of Mobile. With the new units coming soon, there will be a total of 96 units, all family-friendly, all within reach of several Mobile County public schools.

new beginnings

This new affordable and accessible housing project, named Maryvale Place, is expected to consist of four three-story buildings with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Additionally, the complex is specifically designed to accommodate tenants with disabilities while providing common space for laundry, computer centers and clubhouses.

“Maryvale Place allows the city and its partners to leverage vacant property in the community while adding dozens of affordable housing options to one of Mobile’s most needed neighborhoods.”

Innovate

With multiple contributors to this much-needed change, it is estimated that more than half of this housing will be exclusively for low-income Mobile City residents. Thanks to government funding sources, these 96 units can be used for affordable housing for the next 40 years. Lots of helping hands can do light work, and the City of Mobile did just that for Maryvale Place. The upcoming complex is expected to be ready for occupants by fall 2024.

“We cannot thank our local, state and federal partners enough for their continued support of this essential affordable housing project.”
