India among top 5 countries spending most time on mobile apps, report finds
Consumers in 12 countries spent more than 4 hours per day on mobile apps in the quarter ended in September, compared to 8 countries in the previous quarter.
India, South Korea and Mexico are among the top 5 countries spending the most time on mobile apps, according to data from research firm App Annie. Indians spent 4.8 hours a day on mobile applications.

Consumers in 12 countries spent more than 4 hours per day on mobile apps in the quarter ended in September, compared to 8 countries in the previous quarter. Indonesia tops the list with around 5.5 hours per day on mobile apps, followed by Brazil with 5.4 hours. Japan, Canada, Russia, the United States, Turkey, Australia, and the United Kingdom were the other countries on the 12-nation list.

“The numbers reveal the smartphone’s ‘spirit’ dominance among consumers around the world – especially those in developing countries,” App Annie said in a blog post.
The pandemic has not only exponentially increased the consumption of OTT video content, but has also accelerated the adoption of other video formats like short and vertical videos, said Nikhil Gandhi, COO at MX Media. The Hindu.
Among apps, the platform for creating short videos, TikTok was the most downloaded app in the last quarter of September with 1 billion active users. One in eight people around the world uses TikTok every month, according to App Annie.
Social apps like WhatsApp Messenger, Facebook, Telegram, and video conferencing tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams are the other best apps.
App Annie previously estimated that in the first six months of this year, around half of the time users spend on mobile was spent on social media apps.
In contrast, the daily time spent watching television fell from 3 hours per day to 2.5 hours per day in 2021, ten years ago.
