Dogecoin Developer quits due to stress – The Mobile Indian

Ross Nicoll, lead developer of Dogecoin cryptocurrency, recently announced that it was “stepping away” from the Dogecoin project due to stress.

Nicoll wrote in a blog post that he was leaving the Dogecoin Foundation board for various reasons, mainly stress.

“The stress involved is overwhelming and I need to take a step back to focus on myself for a while,” Nicoll said.

In addition to working on the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, he is employed as an engineer at Google.

According to Nicoll, “there is another complication that my employer for my day job is moving into the blockchain space, which poses a risk of conflict of interest if I stay on as director.”

In an attempt to clear the air on the transition, he said, “I give everything I have to the Dogecoin Foundation. I will be an advisor to the Foundation to help make the transition as smooth as possible.

In August 2021, the Dogecoin Foundation resurfaced after a six-year absence. Nicoll and Michi Lumin served as board members alongside community and product leaders Timothy Stebbing, Gary Lachance and Jens Wiechers.

Nicoll said, “I have confidence in their (core teams) ability to steer Dogecoin into the next phase, in a way that I don’t have the mindset for.”

The Foundation’s advisory board included crypto industry figures like Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and Jared Birchall, legal and financial adviser to Elon Musk.

Dogecoin was developed in 2013 by software engineer Billy Markus in just 3 hours. However, Markus also admitted that Dogecoin was created as a joke.
