BSF seizes containers with mobile phones floating in a river along India-B’desh border worth Rs 38 lakh
Sick : Troops from the 70th Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) under the South Bengal border, delegated to the Lodhia border post, seized 317 mobile phones floating in the Pagla River worth Rs 38 lakh on Saturday night at the international border (IB).
According to BSF, the seizure was based on accurate information received from BSF intelligence sources. “On October 8, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., Troops from Border Out Post Lodhia, 70 Battalion under the South Bengal border seized 317 mobile phones as they floated in the Pagla River,” the BSF said in a statement. .
“Troops from Border Out Post Lodhia noticed plastic containers tied to banana tree stalks in the Pagla River were floating down the river towards Bangladesh. Vigilant jawans immediately pulled the above containers out of the river and when they opened them, 317 pieces of mobile phones from different companies were recovered from them. The price is estimated at Rs 38,83,000,” the BSF informed.
The seized goods were handed over to the English Bazar Police Station for further prosecution.
The Battalion 70 Commander said that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border, due to which those involved in activities such as smuggling face many difficulties and some of them are apprehended, who are also punished according to law, the BSF added.
