Bhopal: Burglars targeted a mobile phone shop and a grocery store in a shopping complex in Berasia locality and took loot worth around Rs 5 lakh overnight from Monday to Tuesday.
The defendants were captured by CCTV cameras installed in the compound in which four defendants on bicycles were seen. Berasia Police have registered two separate burglary cases and opened investigations.
Police said Shubham Kushwah, 24, a resident of Mela Ground Berasia, runs a mobile phone shop in City Plaza. Shubham told police that on Monday evening he closed his store and returned home. He received information about the burglary of his shop on Tuesday morning and rushed to the scene. He found that the shutter of the shop was broken. When he checked, a dozen new smartphones and 30 old ones were missing. Rs 1.2 lakh kept in the drawer was also missing. The accused robbed goods worth around Rs 4 lakh from his shop. He had kept the money in the drawer to make payments.
Police said the other complainant Anand Sahu, 23, a resident of Laxminarayan Nagar, runs a grocery store in City Plaza. His shop is located directly across from Shubham’s shop. He told police that the accused grabbed an LED TV, coins, a box full of oil, cashews, sugar and other items from his shop. The stolen goods were worth around Rs 50,000.
The defendants were filmed by CCTV cameras installed in the store. When shopkeepers checked footage from all the CCTV cameras, they found the four defendants had reached the spot on two bicycles. They broke into the shops by smashing the iron shutters around 2.15 a.m. and stole the valuables by torchlight.
They were seen carrying the goods in sacks and a police patrol jeep drove past the location at the same time, but they were unable to locate the accused. The accused broke the lights and the cameras installed in the gallery.
