BCTA and Masabi launch BCTA Mobile Ticket

Masabi has partnered with Beaver County Transit Authority (BCTA) to launch a mobile ticketing system.
BCTA’s Mobile Ticket app is powered by the Justride platform; the app allows passengers to purchase tickets and passes anytime, anywhere using their smartphones. The app is quick, easy, contactless and a safe way to pay and take local bus service.
The BCTA Mobile Ticket app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. It allows users of BCTA services to purchase and use fare products such as single rides, day passes, 11-ride passes, 7-day passes, 31-day passes and price reductions directly from their mobile device. Group travel is also possible with multiple fare products purchased using the same device.
“BCTA is delighted to have partnered with Masabi on the mobile ticketing app. Customers will now find it faster and easier than ever to pay fares,” BCTA Chief Executive Mary Jo Morandini said. “A passenger installs the BCTA mobile app on his smartphone and he never has to deposit coins or notes in the cash register again. Riders board the bus and simply scan the barcode appearing on their phone on the validation devices installed on the buses. And for those without a smartphone, a ticket can be printed from their computer and scanned on all fixed-line buses.
As part of the project, new validation devices have been installed across BCTA’s fixed-route bus fleet. Passengers scan their dynamic, encrypted mobile passes on the devices as they board the bus and an audible beep and colored screen identify the ticket as valid for use. These validation units will help speed up boarding times, making BCTA services faster and more secure by enabling contactless fare payment and validation. The validation units are powered by Masabi’s Justride Inspect software.
Passengers can also visit the BCTA website and use a new BCTA web portal service to purchase tickets and passes for use with the BCTA Mobile Ticket app.
“Increasingly, people are using their smartphones in almost every aspect of their daily lives, and that makes mobile ticketing a logical choice for agencies of all sizes,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. “The change in people’s behavior driven by social distancing requirements has made mobile ticketing and the move towards more contactless journeys a must for transit agencies. We are excited to be working with BCTA to launch a network-wide mobile ticketing option for their riders, helping passengers and agency staff stay safe and accelerating transit to a contactless future.
