Archosaur Games, Tencent, Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney jointly announced Avatar: Grateful, a mobile game that will arrive this year on iOS and Android smartphones. The game is a “mobile-only MMORPG”, but the official game website describes it as a “mobile RPG shooter”.
As its name clearly indicates, Avatar: Grateful is based on Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time. The film has managed to earn $2.847 billion so far. Disney has already recognized the film’s potential and is turning the solo film into a franchise. There are sequels planned, and oddly enough, even in the case of a game, there are multiple iterations.
Avatar: Grateful is claimed to be an MMORPG shooter. It will be available for iPhones running iOS and Android smartphones, presumably simultaneously. According to the game’s newsletter, it will include single-player, co-op, and player-versus-player content.
“Avatar: Reckoning will transport players to never-before-seen parts of Pandora where they will encounter new Na’vi clans fighting to defend their home, battle powerful RDA troops seeking to exploit the moon’s resources, and encounter spectacular alien creatures – all playable Solo or in dynamic multiplayer matches Players will level up their Avatar character, equip powerful weapons, and battle in single-player missions, cooperative, and player versus player (PvP) game modes with innovative touchscreen-friendly combat.
Archosaur Games, the agency responsible for creating the mobile game, uses Unreal Engine 4 for development. The developer has would have worked on mobile titles such as Dragon Raja and World of Kings.
The official site doesn’t offer any demos or even gameplay previews, but does offer newsletter sign-up. In addition to Avatar: Reckoning, two more games based on the hit movie are in the works. There is Ubisoft Avatar: Pandora’s Frontiers and another mobile game, Avatar: The Rise of Pandora. By the way, Ubisoft is the only developer to offer an Avatar game for consoles and PC.
