Apple will raise prices starting tomorrow, affecting some mobile and cross-platform games and cash stores

Tomorrow Apple will start raise prices apps and in-app purchases in multiple regions and countries, which will affect some cross-platform cash shops and mobile games in the future.

According to Apple message to developers,

“As of October 5, 2022, prices for apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) on the App Store will increase in Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea , Sweden, Vietnam, and all territories that use the euro. In Vietnam, these increases also reflect new regulations allowing Apple to collect and remit applicable taxes, namely Value Added Tax (VAT) and Corporate Income Tax (IRS) at rates of 5 % respectively.

This means that if you play games in any of these countries on iOS, you’ll likely see price increases for apps, in-game currency sales, and other items. Related announcements have already been made by some games that should be affected. Some will raise prices across platforms to match.

Tower of Fantasy noted that there will be some increases at all levels, because trying to increase prices only in the countries concerned would be too complex. However, those playing on PC and Android will not see these increases. Niantic has announced that there will be increases in affected countries for Pokemon Go. The Final Fantasy XIV the companion app will also see price increase for Mog Coins, although this seems to be general and does not differ by platform.

“As per the App Store pricing review, we will be reviewing the price of Mog Coins to ensure it is as close as possible on iOS and Android platforms. The FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion App Operations Team does not is unable to provide the exact date of the price change as it will be applied to the entire App Store by Apple.

Other cross-platform and mobile-exclusive games are expected to be affected by these changes, so if you’re playing on mobile or buying items at crate, you could be in for a surprise starting tomorrow.
